Happy Chinese New Year Part I

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

The start of Chinese New Year on 18th February 2007 mark the arrival of year of Boar, the year that everyone considers to be bringing wealth.

Wonder how did I welcome the arrival of new year?

Well, my family and my 8th aunt’s family went to Genting Highlands like last year. Went early in the morning to avoid crowd at the Genting Skyway and reach there at 12 something, check in to Highland Hotel, and the room is nicer compare to the room that we stayed last year.

Went for shopping at First World Plaza and my family get to buy clothes there for new year. It’s weird that we buy clothes there even though there are more shops in KL compare to Genting. Haha…

Bowling next and yeah, I am the weakest among the 5 of us who bowl if the youngest person there (which is only 13) is not considered. I only managed to carry 7 pounds ball and my thinner cousins can even carry a 10 pounds ball!!

We got to eat buffet dinner at a restaurant named
“Coffee Terrace” for a whooping RM 66.70 net per person. But it was worth it as there is variety of food to choose from – Chinese, Western, Indian, Japanese, Local Favourites and Nyonya food. We ate till we are full, back for rounds of food after taking breaks.

I ate till I feel like I am going to throw up, even the fruits are not helping, cos I can’t stop eating! The food was amazing! I SWEAR I’m not going to torture myself by binging myself with food next time. I had been suffering from indigestion for the whole week since that meal – eating reunion dinner and also snacks and biscuits. For one week, my stomach still felt unwell.

After the dinner, we went back to our room to get rest for a while before the fireworks presentation at 12am sharp to mark the arrival of Chinese New Year. I slept in my room while watching television – meaning I’m too tired. Went to witness the fireworks presentation at 11.45 p.m.

It starts with firecrackers burning on 18 poles (if not mistaken) and then there are the fireworks from the roof of Highland Hotel. The fireworks was better than last year’s, and the part that I love the most is where the clusters of gold sparks bursting at the end, and the sparks purple and green falling down like rain in the middle of the presentation. Alas, too bad that I did not have any pictures of the fireworks. I think pictures will not do justice to how nice the fireworks even if I had any of it.

After that, we went to where the adults will go when they are in Genting – the casino! Went to
Starworld (the name of the casino) first, and me and my cousins were blocked by security staffs as we looked young and our ICs were checked and yeah, I’m looking too young for the casino, huh? Then went to the other casino, Casino de Genting
where there will be a dancing troupe performing and yeah again, ICs being chacked.

But what happens in the casino is a little different from what I saw in the drama ‘Dicey Business’. The dealer did not talk to the gamblers and the game went on silently without any communication. But they are sure in calculations as they can know the pay for each player is the player wins.
Amazing!

I can see the dealers were really pale-looking probably from sitting for hours inside the casino and inhaling second hand smoke. Gosh, the guys there were really fair, and probably due to lack of exposure of sunlight. Poor dealers, they probably die from all those unhealthy exposure in the casino mainly from the second hand smoke. The moment I went in, I can ‘detect’ the smell already.

Well, reality is different from dramas of course, yet I still keep comparing it. But one thing that is really similar, the casinos will be full of CCTVs. And yeah, no pictures were allowed to be taken in the casino. There are people playing roulette, poker, pontoon, baccarat and also dominos. The casino is so advanced now that they have roulette where people can place their bets electronically.

And there’s a show there where a Russian troupe dance to tunes. But mind you, it is an 18-years-and-above-only-can-see dance. They dressed sexily as their outfits for dances.

Highlight: There’s a social dance where the woman wraps her body with a thin, white cloth and there’s a horny uncle stands in front of my 8th aunt at the right side of the stage and then moved leftwards and stands beside my mum, then move leftwards to the left to stand right in the middle front of the stage. Well, all of us were all sure that he tried to take a peep of her undies as the woman keep turning her body and lift her leg and there’s a chance to see her undies if you stand near enough. New insight to you guys who are underaged there are so many things that might happen in an adult-rated place.

Back to room at 3 something in the morning and went back home in the morning to prepare ourselves for the Chinese New Year. Genting Highlands is sure a nice place to celebrate Chinese New Year. Hopefully I can back there next year.

Hmm, I should bug my cousin for the pictures taken there so that I can post it here.

That's all for now. Shall continue with part 2 which is overdue.

~KEAT YEE signing off.~
